NFT

If cathedrals were the symbolic production machines of the Middle Ages, and television fulfilled that role in the twentieth century, social media platforms seem to have become the factories of subjectivity in the present.

Richard Dawkins conceived of the meme as a cultural unit capable of reproducing itself from mind to mind in much the same way that genes are transmitted between organisms. Half a century later, billions of memes circulate across the internet every day. But if every meme carries an idea, an emotion, or a way of seeing the world, then the question is no longer how they reproduce, but who decides which ones survive.

NFT investigates that possibility: the capacity of an infinitely reproducible image to interrupt, even if only for a moment, the apparent naturalness of the discourses that organize our experience of the world. It is an exploration of this contested terrain, where humor, irony, and absurdity become tools for challenging dominant narratives and imagining new forms of the common.

NFT consists of an installation of nine CRT televisions arranged in a circuit around three walls of a darkened room, illuminated solely by the light emitted from the screens when powered on. These screens loop videos from the Instagram page @nonfungibletheory.
